    How Sweep It is

    The Detroit Red Wings looked to finish off the series sweep after coming off of a convincing 3-1 victory over the same Columbus Blue Jackets squad. The Blue Jackets, struggling to stay in the playoff chase, may have looked past the Wings. It was Calvin Pickard manning the team’s goal making his 2nd straight start for the Red Wings.

    Red Wings Smothering Offense

    The Red Wings came out firing, throwing anything and everything at the Blue Jacket net. It didn’t take long for the Red Wings to be rewarded. Evgeny Svechnikov broke the scoreless tie nearly 10 minutes in. The Red Wings would take a 1-0 lead into the intermission, while also outshooting the Blue Jackets, 7-3.

     

     

    All Red Wings

    The Red Wings did a great job at playing their game. The team never panicked, even when the Blue Jackets equalized the game at 1 in the 2nd. Jack Roslovic picked up the lone Blue Jacket goal, only to be answered by the Red Wings in the 3rd. the Red Wings had been the much better squad in the game, however, the two teams headed into the 3rd period at a 1-1 tie.

    Taking Care Of Business

    The Red Wings came out with their hair on fire in the 3rd. Three Red Wing goals sent the Blue Jackets home without a point in the weekend series. Michael Rasmussen, Filip Hronek, and Vladislav Namestnikov pushed the lead to 4-1, ultimately proving to be the final score. Rasmussen was finally rewarded with his first goal of the year, a much-needed monkey off of the back for the big center-man.

    Wrap Up

    The Red Wings will next take on the Florida Panthers, a team that has been improving all season. The two-game series with the Panthers will be an important one, especially for confidence within the Red Wings. Currently sitting at 12-20-4 on the season, the team hopes to ride the momentum of these past 2 games further into the year.
