The Red Wings Hope to Score a Goal and Maybe Win Against the Carolina Hurricanes

The Detroit Red Wings take to the road to face the Carolina Hurricanes for the final time this season. The Red Wings sit in seventh place in the Central Division. Interestingly enough, they are the only team that the Hurricanes do not hold a winning record against. As such, the records between the two clubs is 3-3-1 this season. Here are the projected lineups for tonight’s game.

    Carolina Hurricanes:

The Hurricanes will be looking for revenge against the Red Wings after they spoiled Jordan Staal’s 1000th game. In the postgame press conference afterwards Head Coach Rod Brind’Amour remarked “That, to me, is one game – no disrespect to the other team because they played hard, but it’s the one game where I’m like, that was gross, to a man, we were not good”. The Hurricanes do have some reinforcement making its way to the forward group. Teuvo Teravainen who has only played in 14 games returns to the lineup. He has two goals and seven assists in his limited time this campaign. The Hurricanes are still missing forwards Brock McGinn, Jasper Fast, Jordan Martinook, and goaltender Petr Mrazek. James Reimer is expected to get the start in net tonight.

    Detroit Red Wings

The Red Wings have continued to be hit with the injury bug as head coach Jeff Blashill announced that forward Adam Erne will be out due to COVID-protocol. He joins forwards Dylan Larkin, Tyler Bertuzzi, Frans Nielsen, Robby Fabbri, and Bobby Ryan on the injury report. With Erne out of the lineup, the Red Wings are limited in the potential replacements. They have recalled Joe Veleno from the taxi squad and assigned Hayden Verbeek to the taxi squad from Grand Rapids.

This leaves Verbeek and Mathias Brome as potential replacements for Erne. However, it is likely that the team goes with 11 forwards and seven defensemen and insert either Alex Biega or Christian Djoos into the lineup. They have consistently gone with Biega as the extra optionThomas Greiss got the start on Tuesday, so Jonathan Bernier is expected to get the start in net tonight.
