The Detroit Red Wings go up against the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight for their final game of the season. The Red Wings defeated the Blue Jackets in yesterday’s contest by a score of 5-2. Tonight is the end for both of these underperforming teams. The Red Wings and Blue Jackets hold the 7th and 8th seeds in the central division and can only hope for one last good game tonight before heading to the offseason.
Tonight’s Players to Watch
My player to watch on Columbus is Oliver Bjorkstrand. Bjorkstrand leads the Blue Jackets in goals and points scored this season. Tonight, Bjorkstrand will complete his sixth season with the Blue Jackets where he has scored at his highest pace. With 17 goals and 25 assists on the season, Bjorkstrand will head into the offseason with new confidence. Tonight he will push himself to see if he can add on to his best season.
My player to watch for Detroit is Jakub Vrana. In yesterdays game Vrana recorded one goal and one assist to help the Red Wings defeat Columbus. Since joining the Red Wings Vrana has scored seven goals and two assists in ten games played. Vrana is the Red Wings leading scorer and has been driving their offense sense his arrival. After tonight’s game Vrana’s contract is officially over and he will be an RFA. Look for his new contract throughout the offseason.
After the Red Wings won yesterday, expect the Blue Jackets to give it their all to win the season’s final game. Although both teams want a higher draft pick, I do not believe Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella will accept defeat in the final game. Both teams are full of young players that have drawn into the lineup and are working to prove themselves for next season. Tonight fans can expect to look for a fun game with the younger players trying to show themselves off.
The game can be watched on BSOH and BSDET. Puck drop is set for 7:00 PM EST.
